On the occasion of National Nutrition Month, an awareness programme was celebrated on 15th October, 2025.

Lucknow:The theme of this year awareness Programme was “Obesity in children” . The programme was organised by the Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology at SGPGIMS, Lucknow. The event was graced by Director, Prof. R K Dhiman, Chief Medical Superintendent, Medical Superintendent, Prof.& HOD Pediatric Surgery Dr. Basant Kumar, Prof. Praveer Rai, Prof Samir Mohindra and HOD Pediatric Gastroenterology Prof Ujjal Poddar, Prof. Anshu Srivastava, Prof L K Bharti,Dr Ajayaravind and Dr Nitu . On the eve of National Nutrition Month, Director Prof. R K Dhiman along other faculty members released a booklet on “Awareness and management of obesity/Fatty Liver in children” written by Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology with the input from all the faculty members of the department. Later this booklet was distributed to all children free of cost. Director of Institute Prof Dhiman while addressing to gathering said that obesity is increasing very fast specially in urban children. Prof. Dhiman emphasized that adequate amount of sleep is very necessary to maintain the healthy life. Prof & HOD Dr Ujjal Poddar emphasized on the importance of balance diet in children. Chief Medical Superintendent Dr Devendra Gupta has given his important input regarding prevention of obesity in children. Medical Superintendent Prof. Rajesh Harshwardhan emphasized on electronic display of

awareness programme; regarding prevention and management of obesity. He also emphasized school health programme for awareness of children health. Professor of Gastroenterology, Dr. Praveer Rai told that this booklet is very helpful in reaching the message about healthy life style at community level. Prof. Anshu Srivastava told that healthy lifestyle must be adopted by whole family, that will help in prevention of obesity. Prof. Sameer Mohindra said that this booklet is very good for children with obesity and its good public health initiative from all the faculty members of Pediatric Gastroenterology. Prof L. K. Bharti, Nodal Officer, patient Kitchen and dietary services of the institute said that parents and children must adopt healthy lifestyle regarding balance diet, reducing screen time and having appropriate exercise as per age and preference, minimum for 60 minutes per day. On this occasion, the pantry staff (Deepak, Ashutosh and Pappu ji) who distributes food to the patients in the ward of Pediatric Gastroenterology Department were honored.
Ms. Neelu, dietician from Pediatric

gastroenterology, contributed a lot in making this awareness program successful. On this occasion whole Pediatric Gastroenterology department including OPD staff, ward, laboratory and endoscopy staff were present. Dietician Preeti Manglik, Shivangi, Shikha, Akansha, Moni, Pratibha, Shazia contributed to make this event successful. All the dieticians of the institute were also present on this occasion.
