Department of Neurosurgery, King George’s Medical University, Lucknow Celebrating 64 Glorious Years of Neurosurgery & 31st Foundation Day

The Department of Neurosurgery, King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, celebrated its 31st Foundation Day with immense pride and enthusiasm, marking 64 years of academic excellence, patient care, and innovation in neurosurgery.
The celebration was graced by Vice Chancellor, Prof. Soniya Nityanand, as Chief Guest, whose presence added great honor to the occasion. The event was presided over by Prof. K.K. Singh, Dean Paramedical Sciences, who lauded the department’s exemplary contribution to teaching, research, and advanced patient care.
A major highlight of the event was the Annual Departmental Report, presented by Prof. B.K. Ojha, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery, KGMU.
Prof. Ojha proudly shared that the department caters to an impressive 30,000 patients annually in the outpatient department, admits around 3,500 patients per year, and performs nearly 3,000 neurosurgical operations annually — reflecting the department’s pivotal role in delivering advanced neurological and neurosurgical care in the region.

Prof. Ojha also announced the upcoming establishment of a state-of-the-art Hybrid Operation Theatre (Hybrid OT) under the Department of Neurosurgery. This advanced facility will significantly benefit patients suffering from aneurysmal bleeds, stroke, and arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) by integrating surgical and endovascular capabilities under one roof.
The prestigious Dave Newton Memorial Oration was delivered by Prof. Sanjay Behari, who spoke on “Biomedical Device Development.” His enlightening address emphasized the fusion of technology, innovation, and surgical expertise in advancing modern neurosurgery.
Adding academic depth to the celebration, a CME on Endovascular Procedures was organized, featuring renowned faculty Dr. Girish Rajpal (Medanta, Noida), Dr. Vikas Jha (HOD Neurosurgery AIIMS, Patna), and Dr. Deepak K Singh (HOD Neurosurgery, RML Lucknow).
The CME offered hands-on exposure through a Mentice Endovascular Simulation Device, allowing participants to practice and learn the fundamentals and techniques of endovascular interventions in a risk-free, realistic environment.
Neurosurgeons and faculty from across Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand — including Lucknow, Varanasi, Ghaziabad, Prayagraj, and Azamgarh — enthusiastically participated in this academic exchange.
The event also featured a unique Alumni CME Session – “Beyond the Scalpel”, a dynamic interactive platform for alumni to share practical insights, mentorship experiences, and real-world perspectives on the evolution of neurosurgical practice.
Adding a creative touch, Dr. Prakash Khetan from Allahabad presented an inspiring Neurosurgical Poetry Recitation, beautifully blending art with the precision of neurosurgery, much to the audience’s appreciation.
The program concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks by Dr. Ankur Bajaj, who eloquently expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, guest speakers, alumni, faculty, residents, media personnel, and the organizing team for their invaluable contributions to the success of the event.
His address was widely appreciated for capturing the spirit of unity, academic dedication, and departmental pride.
